How much do watch batteries cost?

How much do watch batteries cost?

We explain how much watch batteries cost and the costs to get a watch battery replaced.

So you have spent time shopping for a watch, you wear it every-day, or almost every day, but now the battery is dead. How much time will it take to replace the battery and how much will it cost?

This is a common question and prices can range from rather inexpensive to quite costly. It’s easy to gauge what your specific battery replacement should cost once the options are fully laid out and explained.

How much do watch batteries cost?

Here at Braunschweiger Jewelers our normal battery charges are $15 – $25 and we can normally do it while you wait. This price is based on the kind of watch you have and the type of battery it takes, as well as the access to that battery your watch provides.

If you have a simple watch with a back that easily pops off it’s going to be closer to $15. But if your watch is a bit more complicated, or requires a higher level of expertise, expect to pay somewhere in the $25 – $65 range.

At Braunschweiger’s your battery is changed by a watchmaking professional with decades of experience. In fact, our family has been in the watchmaking business going back 4 generations, so when we say we’re experts, we mean it. Our professionals have an average of 35+ years changing batteries and working on various timepieces. There are special tools, certain steps, and tricks of the trade that four generations of Braunschweiger’s have been trained as watchmakers to handle.

Additionally, at our jewelry stores, we mark our batteries with a date and guarantee their performance for one year. If during that time the battery fails, bring it back in and we’ll replace it at no cost.

How much does a watch battery replacement cost elsewhere?

Some places could charge as low as $5 to change your battery. My guess is they’re not trained technicians, and are trying to replace the battery as fast as possible.

On the flip side, if you bring your watch back to the store you bought it from (think Omega, Tiffany, Charriol, Michele, Raymond Weil, and more), or send you watch back to the company directly, it will take longer and cost more. You might not see your watch for a month or more, and spend over $100, but you’ll have trained experts who know the ins and outs of your watch. It’s a top-notch service but you’ll pay for it.

Watch battery replacement costs depend on expertise.

In other words, you get what you pay for.

So what’s your best bet? Finding an independently owned jewelry store (like us here at Braunschweiger Jewelers) that employs watch technicians is a great middle of the road option.
