A native New Yorker and graduate of the Pratt Institute, Charles began as a trained sculptor and transitioned to jewelry. Officially launching his jewelry business in the historic Diamond District of New York City in 1976, Krypell began producing his first complete collections of sterling silver jewelry. At a time when most jewelry designers were conditioned to create jewelry as serious rather than fun, Charles’ Silver Collections were designed to be worn with ease and corresponded to the bold and beautiful aesthetics of the decade. As of 2025, the company is still helmed by Mr. Krypell and is still based in New York City.
